Shuaibu Lau is the PDP’s choice for Senate Deputy Minority Leader

The Peoples Democratic Party has nominated Shuaibu Lau to be Senate Deputy Minority Leader. Shuaibu Lau will take over for Emmanuel Bwacha, who has defected to the All Progressives Congress.

Senator Shuaibu Lau, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been nominated to be the new Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate.

In a letter read out at Tuesday’s plenary by the PDP National Chairman, Iyorcha Ayu, the party expressed its displeasure with the situation.
In his statement, Mr Ayu stated that Mr Lau would take over for Emmanuel Bwacha, who had defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Following Sen. Emmanuel Bwacha’s defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the PDP Senate caucus has nominated Sen. Shuaibu Lau to serve as his replacement.
“Lau is from Taraba, which is located in the country’s North East geopolitical zone, which is where the position has been designated.”

The Senate caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party has duly informed the party’s National Headquarters, and it is in this context that we are communicating with you.
We feel that Lau will be a valuable asset to the Senate’s leadership in the coming years.
His final words were, “Thank you, and please accept our heartfelt congratulations.”
Meanwhile, Mr Bwacha officially defected to the APC during plenary, raising the total number of APC Senators to 70, with the PDP having 38 and the Young Progressives Party (YPP) having one.
His decision to leave the PDP was motivated by a divide inside the party in his home state of Taraba, which he claimed was making it impossible for him to “breathe freely.”
