Over the past several days, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (#ASUU) has been in the headlines because of some difficulties involving Nigerian higher education institutions. The union began a one-month strike yesterday in protest of the failure of the government to implement a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) negotiated with the FG in 2009. Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, the national president of the ASUU, also criticized the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and its registrar for interfering in admissions, noting that only the Senates of universities have the legal authority to do so.
