JAMB moves registration for the 2022 UTME/DE until February 19

 

 

Over the past several days, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (#ASUU) has been in the headlines because of some difficulties involving Nigerian higher education institutions. The union began a one-month strike yesterday in protest of the failure of the government to implement a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) negotiated with the FG in 2009. Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, the national president of the ASUU, also criticized the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and its registrar for interfering in admissions, noting that only the Senates of universities have the legal authority to do so.

 

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has stated that the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) does not have the authority to conduct admissions to higher education institutions. According to an ASUU national president, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, the board’s decision to handle admissions to higher schools was an invasion on the university’s sovereignty, according to the statement. It explained that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) had no authority to determine entrance qualifications or to admit or delist programs from institutions, according to THENIGEIAFM.

 

 

 

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has been in the news for the past few days as a result of various challenges concerning Nigerian higher education institutions.
Yesterday, the union started a one-month strike in protest of the government’s inability to follow a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) reached with the FG in 2009.
Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, the ASUU’s national president, also chastised the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and its registrar for intervening with admissions, pointing out that only university Senates have the legal power to do so.
