Following Russian President Vladimir Putin’s commencement of a military invasion of Ukraine on Thursday, Nigerian forward Michael Stephen has been forced to cease his football activity.
Due to the fact that they play their football in Ukraine, six Nigerian players have been directly impacted by the conflict, with three playing in the top league and three more in the second division.

Viv Solomon-Otabor is a journeyman who joined Rukh Lviv in January 2022 on a free transfer from St Johnstone of the Scottish Premiership. Viv Solomon-Otabor is 26 years old and plays as a forward.
Solomon-Otabor progressed through the ranks at Birmingham City, making 40 appearances for the club while on loan at Oxford, Bolton, and Portsmouth during his time at the club.
Later in his career, the winger would go on to play for CSKA Sofia, Wigan, and most recently St Johnstone before signing a one-year contract with Rukh Lviv, for whom he has yet to appear in a match.
Rivers of Henry Tedum and Paago Henry Tedum Paago is a Ukrainian striker who now plays for Trustyanets in the country’s second division, the Druga Liga.
Paago, a 23-year-old Ukrainian footballer, has fought his way up through the country’s lower leagues and played a key role in Trustyanets’ promotion to the second division, where he has scored two goals in 10 games so far this season.
Bright John Essien
