A public non-profit organization dedicated to the improvement of economic policy research and training in Africa, the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) was created in 1988 as a public not-for-profit corporation. The purpose and strategic intent of the Consortium are based on the premise that sustained development in Sub-Saharan Africa necessitates the recruitment and retention of well-trained, locally based professional economists. In order to facilitate the supply of capacity building in economic policy in Francophone and Anglophone African countries, the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) supports policy research and graduate training in the respective countries.

About African Economic Research Consortium (AERC)

The African Economic Research Consortium, which was established in 1988, is a capacity-building organisation dedicated to informing economic policies in Sub-Saharan Africa. The AERC is comprised of three key components: research, training, and public policy advocacy. Within a network of scholars, institutions, and policymakers across Africa and around the world, the organization integrates economic policy research, postgraduate training, and policy outreach to achieve its goals. Other capacity-building efforts are incorporated into the Research Program to supplement theme and collaborative research projects, which are the program’s primary components. The program is expected to last approximately one hour.

Requirements for AERC Masters Scholarship Qualification

To qualify for AERC Masters Scholarship, applicant must:

• Have applied and been admitted to any one of the listed CMAP universities;
• Have attained at least a Second Class Honours (Upper Division) or equivalent in Economics or related field from an accredited university; and
• Female and applicants from post-conflict and 1states (especially the AERC Masters Bridge Programme alumni class of 2017 and 2018) are highly encouraged to apply.

Documents Required for Application

Upon receipt of an admission letter from a specific university, applicants shall upload the following documents to the AERC scholarship portal http://scholarships.aercafrica.org

• Application cover letter;
• Curriculum Vitae;
• Evidence of admission at any of the universities listed above; and
• Certified copies of transcripts and certificates.
