In addition to that, we have a handful of scholarships that are reserved solely for students from other countries. Some are provided by Birkbeck on its own, while others are provided by Birkbeck in collaboration with outside organizations.

Amount of the Scholarship: The amount of the scholarship will be applied as a discount to the tuition cost for your first year of study. This will put the amount of your tuition price for the course closer in line with the amount of the tuition charge for students studying at home.
We are pleased to announce the Global Future Scholarship as part of our ongoing efforts to expand the global reach of Birkbeck College. This scholarship will provide financial assistance to students from all nations that are members of the European Union, as well as Brazil and Réunion.

you are responsible for your own financial support and you are in possession of a full-time Master’s offer of study from us for enrollment in October 2022 and/or January 2023
You are considered a “International” tuition fee payer at this institution.
One student may receive only one scholarship award, and this particular scholarship cannot often be held at the same time as any other scholarship the student may be eligible for.

 

 

How to make use of it:
Applicants who have their primary residence in one of the countries listed are qualified for the scholarship and do not need to make a separate application for it; our admissions teams will take care of that for you as you progress through the application process. In the event that we need any more information from you, we will get in touch with you personally.

 

 

If at any time during the application process or while you are a student at Birkbeck you are granted established or pre-settled status, you will no longer be eligible for a scholarship. This applies even if you were granted the status before applying to Birkbeck.

Additional Scholarships available

International Early Enrolment Tuition Fee Reduction – India and Nigeria

  • A tuition fee reduction of 10% is available to international students living in India or Nigeria starting a full-time postgraduate course in Autumn 2022.
  • Value: 10% reduction in postgraduate taught course fees.
  • Duration: 10% reduction is for the first year of your course (if your course is longer than one year).
  • Eligibility: To be eligible for our International Early Enrolment Tuition Fee reduction you must be:
    • an international student (you are classified as an ‘international’ tuition fee payer)
    • studying full time
    • starting a postgraduate taught course in Autumn 2022
    • complete enrolment by 31 August 2022
    • domiciled in India or Nigeria.
  • Please note, this cannot be combined with our alumni discount. If you are in receipt of sponsorship by a third-party and/or in receipt of a Birkbeck school award/scholarship, you won’t be eligible.
  • How to apply: There is no need to apply – if you meet the eligibility criteria, the 10% will be applied automatically.

 

 

Department of Management master’s scholarships 2022

  • A £1,000 scholarship is available to international students living in India or Nigeria, starting on one of the master’s courses offered by the Department of Management in Autumn 2022 and studying full-time.
  • Value: £1,000 tuition fee reduction.
  • Eligibility: To be eligible for the scholarship, you must:
    • be an international student
    • be studying full-time
    • have received an offer in line with our entry criteria and a place to study on one of our Department of Management master’s courses in Autumn 2022
    • be domiciled in India or Nigeria.
  • Please note, the only other financial incentive that this can be combined with is the 10% early enrolment tuition fee reduction.
  • If you are in receipt of sponsorship by a third-party and/or in receipt of a Birkbeck school award/scholarship, you won’t be eligible.
  • How to apply: There is no need to apply – if you meet the eligibility criteria, the scholarship will be applied automatically.

 

 

Nigeria Creative Industries master’s scholarships

  • A £1,000 scholarship is available to international students living in Nigeria starting on a School of Arts master’s course in Autumn 2022 and studying full-time.
  • Value: £1,000 tuition fee reduction.
  • Eligibility: To be eligible for the scholarship, you must:
    • be an international student
    • be studying full time
    • have received an offer in line with our entry criteria and a place to study on a School of Arts master’s course in Autumn 2022
    • be domiciled in Nigeria.
  • Please note, the only other financial incentive that this can be combined with is the 10% early enrolment tuition fee reduction.
  • If you are in receipt of sponsorship by a third-party and/or in receipt of a Birkbeck school award/scholarship, you won’t be eligible.
  • How to apply: There is no need to apply, if you meet the eligibility criteria the scholarship will be applied automatically

 

Birkbeck international excellence scholarships

  • Birkbeck is offering a limited number of scholarships to international students enrolling in the Autumn 2022 intake on a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate taught programme.
  • Scholarship amount: £1,000 – £5,000
  • The scholarship will be applied as a discount to the tuition fee for your first year of study only.
  • Eligibility: To be eligible you need to meet all of the following conditions:
    • you are an international overseas tuition fee-paying student holding an unconditional offer on a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate taught programme offered by Birkbeck, starting in Autumn 2022. You must have been assessed as an international fee-payer to qualify.
    • you are ordinarily resident of a country in the relevant region
    • you are self-funded
    • you are classified as an ‘International’ tuition fee payer.
  • Only one scholarship award can be offered per student and the scholarship cannot normally be held in conjunction with any other scholarship. You may apply for multiple scholarships; if you are successful in being awarded multiple scholarships, the highest value scholarship will be awarded to you.
  • How to apply: Once you have received an unconditional offer from Birkbeck, you can apply using the online application form for the region where you ordinarily reside.
  • Successful scholars will be selected on the basis of a statement of no more than 4000 characters in support of the application. The statement should detail why they are the ideal candidate for the scholarship. Applicants will be required to have made provision to fund the remainder of their studies.
  • If you are successfully awarded this scholarship, you will be notified by e-mail. You must complete a payment of a £200 non-refundable deposit within the timeframe stated on your award letter (typically five working days).
  • You must successfully enrol for the Autumn 2022 intake to receive the award, and no later than 17 September 2022.
  • Application deadlines:
    • For courses starting in the Autumn 2022, the deadline to apply for this scholarship is:
    • Round 1: midnight UK time on Sunday 29 May 2022
    • Round 2: midnight UK time on Sunday 17 July 2022 (31 July for Sub-Saharan Africa)
    • The deadline that applicants will receive a response by is:
    • Round 2: Monday 8 August 2022
    • Students who have applied by the first deadline do not need to submit a new application to be considered for the second round.
  • General terms and conditions:
    • Birkbeck has sole discretion to assign, vary or withdraw this award.
    • This award is only available to students enrolling to Birkbeck for the first time.
    • This award excludes sponsorship students, current students and those returning on the second or third year of the same course.
    • This award excludes short courses and part-time courses.
    • As a Birkbeck Scholar you will be required to participate in current and future promotional activities to represent the student body at Birkbeck; including, but not limited to, be interviewed and photographed by our External Relations and Marketing department, provide short progress reports on your studies. The College reserves the right to revoke the scholarship in the event the scholar is not fulfilling the requirements of the role.
    • If the student fails to enrol by 17 September 2022, the scholarship fund will be cancelled in full.

Commonwealth Scholarships

  • Commonwealth citizens can apply for a number of different funds under the Commonwealth Scholarship.
  • Birkbeck currently takes part in the following schemes:
    • Commonwealth PhD Scholarships (for least developed and fragile country candidates)
    • Commonwealth Split-site (PhD) Scholarships (for low- and middle-income country candidates)
    • Commonwealth Master’s Scholarships (for candidates nominated by CSC nominating agencies)

 

 

Chevening Scholarships 

  • Birkbeck has participated in the Chevening Scholarships scheme since its inception. Chevening Scholarships are full cost, covering both tuition fees and living costs.
  • We welcome applications from all Chevening-eligible countries and have received an increasing number of scholars in recent years across a wide range of subjects, from a wide range of countries.
  • Standard Chevening Awards
    • Amount: tuition fees and living costs provided by the UK Government (through the Chevening Secretariat), with a contribution towards fees from Birkbeck, University of London.
    • Eligible courses: all full-time master’s degree programmes offered by Birkbeck.
    • Number of awards: no limit on the number of candidates nominated by Chevening.
  • Birkbeck-Chevening Partnership Awards
  • How to apply: For both types of scholarship, applications should be made through the Chevening website.
    • Go to the application page.
    • Select your country.
    • Select ‘scholarship’ as level.
    • Now select ‘apply for scholarship’.

    • All applicants who wish to be considered under the Partnership Scheme and the Standard Scheme are encouraged to put Birkbeck as their first preference in their Chevening application. Applicants are also strongly advised to note the Chevening Scholarships timeline and should aim to meet any Birkbeck offer conditions and Chevening Scholarship conditions (e.g. language proficiency etc) before the end of June 2019.
  • When to apply: Applications for 2021-22 are now closed. They will reopen in August 2021 for opportunities to study in the UK in 2022-23. For information, please visit the Chevening website.
  • Contact with Birkbeck: Because Chevening Scholarships have an early application deadline, applicants are encouraged to make early contact with Birkbeck in order to demonstrate to the scholarships panel that they have either made a formal application to Birkbeck or that they have researched options with intent to apply.
