1. B.A. ENGLISH

a. A Period of Five (5) Years BA in English (Basic Requirements)

i. Credit passes in at least five topics at the NECO, S.S.C.E., or G.C.E. ‘O’ Level, including English Language and Literature in English, and one Arts subject and at least a pass in Mathematics, or one Science subject or a credit pass in any of the Social Science areas

ii. A TC II Certificate with credit or merit in at least five applicable subjects, acquired in no more than two sittings total.

c. A Period of Four (4) Years BA in English (Direct Entry Requirements)

a minimum of two arts subjects, one of which must be either English Language or Literature in English, passed with excellence at the GCE Advanced Level; alternatively, an OND with Upper Credit in English and Literary Studies. In addition to this, the candidate is anticipated to hold credit passes in at least five subjects at the NECO, S.S.C.E., or G.C.E. ‘O’ Level, including English Language and Literature in English, in addition to one Arts subject plus a pass in Mathematics or one Science subject and a credit pass in any of the Social Science subjects.

2. B.A. PHILOSOPHY

a. Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy with Five Years of Study (Basic Requirements)

i. A minimum of one pass in mathematics and five credit passes at the O/Level (SSCE, GCE, or NECO), with at least one pass in English Language and four other subjects.

ii. Have received five (5) Merit passes in TC II, with at least one of those passes being in Mathematics, and four of the other passes including English Language.

b. Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, Four (4) Years of Study (Direct Entry Requirements)

i. Two (2) A/L Credit Passes in any Arts/Management or Social Sciences subject, as well as five (5) credits O/L with English Language and at least a Pass in Mathematics.

ii. A passing grade of Merit in the NCE, together with five (5) O/Ls, one of which must be in English Language, and a passing grade in Mathematics.

iii. Merit Pass in DELSU Diploma in Law or Social and Management Sciences and UTME Requirements, including at least a Pass in Mathematics and five (5) credits O/L with English Language

3. B.A. THEATRE ARTS

a. Bachelor of Arts in Theatre, Five (5) Years of Study (Basic Requirements)

A minimum of five credits is required for entry into the Theatre Arts program. These must include English Language and Literature in English, CRS/Civic Education, History/Government, and any other Art or Social Science topic.

b. Bachelor of Arts in Theatre, Four (4) Years of Study (Direct Entry Requirements)

in addition to the required five (5) credits for SSCE, GCE O/L, and NECO, candidates must have an NCE in Theatre Arts and other relevant Arts with a merit or higher. The five-year degree program is open to applicants who hold a diploma in a related art (including but not limited to fine art, music, mass communication, and literature) with an upper credit or higher.

Note

Credits gained at the SSCE and tests that are equal to it should be discretely chosen from among subjects in the Arts, as well as the Social Sciences. This is said with full acknowledgement of the multifaceted nature of the Theatre Arts discipline as a whole.

4. B.A. RELIGIOUS STUDIES

a. A Period of Five (5) Years Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies (Basic Requirements)

Applicants must have five (5) O/Level Credit passes in order to be eligible for the UTME. These must include English Language, CRS or Islamic Religious Studies, at least two other subjects from Arts/Social Sciences, and at least a pass in Mathematics. Additionally, applicants must have at least a pass in Mathematics.

c. A Period of Four (4) Years Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies (Direct Entry Requirements)

i. Five credits on the Senior School Certificate or GCE Ordinary Level, to be combined with two credits on the GCE Advanced Level, to include English Language and Religious Knowledge, with a minimum pass in Mathematics or its equivalent.

ii. A merit pass in each of the two primary topics taken at the NCE level (of which at least one must be Christian Religious Studies) in addition to five (5) credits earned at the Senior School Certificate or GCE Ordinary Level, including English Language. Christian Religious Studies and a minimum grade of C in Mathematics are required.

iii. A Diploma in Religious Studies from Delta State University, in addition to five (5) credits at the GCE “O” Level including English Language and Christian Religious Studies or its equivalent, and at least a Pass in Mathematics. iv. A Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics.

FACULTY OF EDUCATION

1. Bachelor of Education in Guidance and Counseling

B.Ed. in Guidance and Counseling with Five (5) Years of Study (Basic Requirements)

Candidates seeking entry into the six-year degree program are required to have either a Senior Secondary School Ordinary level Certificate or a General Certificate of Education or their equivalents with at least five Credit passes in not more than two sittings; these must include English Language and Mathematics. In addition, candidates must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the English language and mathematics.

2. Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood and Primary Education (B. Ed. ECPE)

a. Bachelor of Education with a Focus on Early and Primary Education Requiring Five Years of Study (Basic Requirements)

The requirements for entry into the five-year Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Education Program are, for the most part, equivalent to those of the previous four-year degree program. Candidates must be in possession of the following qualifications to be eligible:

i. School Certificate or General Certificate of Education (GCE) with passes at Credit Level or above in five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, earned in not more than two (2) sittings.

ii. A certificate for teachers of information technology with either a credit or a merit level pass in each of five topics, including English Language and Mathematics. Because this is a professional degree for elementary school teachers, students will either focus on one or two teaching areas as their primary or secondary concentration.

b. Bachelor of Education, Childhood and Primary Education, Four (4) Years (Direct Entry Requirements)

Candidates must be in possession of the following qualifications to be eligible:

In addition to either of these requirements, you must also have either an NCE or its equivalent in two relevant topics at the Credit or Merit level.

i. A School Certificate or General Certificate of Education (GCE) with a minimum of five other courses, including English Language, passed at the credit level within a maximum of two sittings.

ii. A Teachers’ Grade II certification with a Credit or Merit in five applicable courses, including English Language and Mathematics.

3. B.Sc. (Ed.) BIOLOGY EDUCATION

a. Bachelor of Science in Education in Biology with Five (5) Years of Study (Basic Requirements)

GCE “O” Level or its equivalent with credit passes in at least five subjects including English Languages, Mathematics, Chemistry, and Biology in no more than two sittings and not more than two attempts at each subject.

b. Bachelor of Science in Education in Biology, which Takes Four Years to Complete (Direct Entry Requirements)

Biology and either Chemistry or Geography at the NCE level, with a minimum of one merit pass in each.

4. Bachelor of Science in Education in Computer Science

a. Bachelor of Science in Education in Computer Science with Five (5) Years of Study (Basic Requirements)

GCE “O” level and its equivalent credit passes in at least five subjects in at least five subjects in not more than two sittings, including English Language Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

b. Bachelor of Science in Education in Computer Science, which Takes Four Years to Complete (Direct Entry Requirements)

A minimum of merit passes in Chemistry and Education at the National Certificate of Education level, as well as in any other subject, or GCE “A” level passes, including Physics

5. B.Sc. (Ed.) ECONOMICS EDUCATION

a. Bachelor of Science in Education in Economics with Five (5) Years of Study (Basic Requirements)

For entry into the Five-Year Program leading to a Bachelor of Science in Economics Education degree. The candidate needs to have at least one of the following skills: English, Economics, Geography, Mathematics, or Government.

b. Bachelor of Science in Education in Physics with Four Years of Study (Direct Entry Requirements)

Credit from the National Certificate of Education in Social Studies (Double Major) or a Diploma in Social Studies or Social Work with Lower Credit is required. GCE A ‘Level in relevant topics.

6. B.Sc. (Ed.) HUMAN KINETICS, RECREATION AND SPORTS SCIENCES

a. Bachelor of Science in Education in Human Kinetics, Recreation, and Sports Sciences, Completing Five Years of Study

The general requirements for admission into the Delta State University, Abraka must be met in order for a candidate to be considered for entry into this particular program. To be more specific, candidates need to have earned a minimum of five (5) Credit passes in SSCE (WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB) / TC II, with English and Mathematics among those subjects. In addition to having at least five (5) Credit passes, candidates are expected to have at least one (1) Credit pass in Biology, Health Science, or Physical Education, as well as any other two relevant topics, all of which must have been acquired in no more than two sittings.

b. Bachelor of Science in Education in Human Kinetics, Recreation, and Sports Sciences, Completed in Four (4) Years

A minimum of five (5) Credit passes at SSCE (WAEC, NECO OR NABTEB)/TC II, including English and Mathematics, is required of candidates who wish to be considered for admission into the 4-year direct entry program at Delta State University, Abraka. These candidates must also meet the general SSCE requirements for admission into the university.

Additionally, the candidates need to have at least one of the following requirements:

i. Credit from the NCE in either Physical Education or Health Education;

ii. Passes at the GCE Advanced Level in three out of the following four subjects: biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics;

iii. A passing grade of excellence on the Diploma examination administered by the National Institute of Sports (NIS);

iv. A diploma with a merit pass in either Physical and Health Education or Human Kinetics and Health Education or Health, Safety and Environment from the Delta State University in Abraka or from any other institution that is recognized by the Senate of DELSU.

7. B.Sc. (Ed.) BUSINESS EDUCATION

a. Bachelor of Science in Education in Business with Five (5) Years of Study (Basic Requirements)

Obtain a credit pass in all five (5) topics on either the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) or an examination that is equal to it. The credits must be completed in no more than two sittings, and they must contain English Language, Mathematics, and Economics. Take note that engaging in business does not supplant economics.

b. Bachelor of Science in Education in Business Administration After Four Years (Direct Entry Requirements)

Candidates for direct entry are required to hold an Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in at least one of the following fields: business administration, accounting, or office technology management in addition to the O’ level requirements.

FACULTY OF MANAGEMENT SCIENCES

1. B.Sc. ACCOUNTING

a. Bachelor of Science in Accounting, Five (5) Years of Study (Basic Requirements)

General University Requirement: SSCE, NECO, NABTEB, or GCE Ordinary Level (O/L) in five courses, including English Language, Mathematics, and Economics, as well as any other two appropriate subjects, attained at not more than two (2) sittings in any combination.

Foundation and Intermediate Examination passes from recognized professional bodies, including the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), and the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN). In addition, candidates are required to have earned a minimum of five credits toward either the West African School Certificate (WASC), the National Examination Certificate (NECO), the Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE), or the General Certificate of Education (GCE)

b. Bachelor of Science in Accounting, Four (4) Years of Study (Direct Entry Requirements)

at least one other subject in addition to GCE Advanced (A/L) or Higher School Certificate (HSC) passes in Accounting or Economics. In addition to this, candidates need to have earned a total of five credits at the West African School Certificate (WASC), National Examination Council (NECO), Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE), or General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary Level (O/L) in five subjects, including English Language, Mathematics, and Economics, as well as any other two relevant subjects, in not more than two (2) separate sittings.

Higher National Diploma (HND), which can be earned from a polytechnic or college of technology that has been authorized. In addition to this, candidates need to have earned a total of five credits at the West African School Certificate (WASC), National Examination Council (NECO), Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE), or General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary Level (O/L) in five subjects, including English Language, Mathematics, and Economics, as well as any other two relevant subjects, in not more than two (2) separate sittings.

Diploma acquired from the Faculty of Management Sciences of the Delta State University with a Merit Pass or National Diploma (ND) from one of the Delta State University’s recognized Polytechnics or Colleges of Technology with a grade that was not lower than Upper Credit. In addition, candidates need to have five credits from the West African School Certificate (WASC), the National Examination Certificate (NECO), the Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE), or the General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level (O/L) in five subjects, including English Language, Mathematics, and Economics, as well as any other two relevant subjects, and they must have obtained these credits in not more than two (2) sittings.

2. B.Sc. BANKING AND FINANCE

B.S. in Banking and Finance after Five (5) Years of Study (Basic Requirements)

General University Requirement: SSCE, NECO, NABTEB, or GCE Ordinary Level (O/L) in five courses, including English Language, Mathematics, and Economics, as well as any other two appropriate subjects, attained at not more than two (2) sittings in any combination.

3. B.Sc. BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

a. Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with Five (5) Years of Study (Basic Requirements)

Obtaining a minimum of five (5) credits in not more than two sittings at the SSCE/NECO/WASC/GCE ‘O’ level, including English Language, Mathematics, Economics and/or Commerce, and any other two (2) Social/Management Science Subjects, is required for admission to university.

b. Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with Four (4) Years of Study (Direct Entry Requirements)

i. Passes in Accounting or Economics at the GCE Advanced Level (A/L) or Higher School Certificates (HSC), as well as at least one other Social Science course. In addition, candidates are required to hold a minimum of five credits from the West African School Certificate (WASC), Senior School Certificate (SSCE), general Certificate of Education (GCE), WAEC/NECO at ordinary level (O/L), or NABTEB in five (5) subjects. These subjects must include English Language, Mathematics, Economics, and two other Social Science subjects. The results of the ordinary and advanced levels must be attained in no more than two sittings. This requirement applies to both levels.

ii. If you attended a polytechnic or college of technology, you must have at least an upper credit on your National Diploma (ND) if you studied relevant subjects and received them from universities that are recognized. In addition, candidates need to have five credits from the WASCE, GCE (O/L), SSCE, or NABTEB, with at least one of those credits coming from English Language, Mathematics, or Economics.

 

4. B.Sc. MARKETING

B.S. in Marketing with Five (5) Years of Study (Basic Requirements)

Obtaining a minimum of five (5) credits in SSCE/NECO/WASC/GCE ‘O’ level examinations within not more than two (2) sittings is required for university admission. These credits must include English Language, Mathematics, Economics and/or Commerce, and any two (2) other Social/Management Science Subjects.

FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES

1. B.Sc. ECONOMICS

Bachelor of Science in Economics After Five (5) Years (Basic Requirements)

Five CREDIT passes at the SSCE, NECO, NABTEB, or G.C.E Ordinary Level, including English Language, Mathematics, Economics, and one other Social Science subject, and any other topic, in no more than two sittings, are required. These passes can be earned at any of the following:

2. B.Sc. POLITICAL SCIENCE

a. Bachelor of Science in Political Science with Five (5) Years of Study (Basic Requirements)

A prospective candidate is required to have five credit passes at WASSCE, G.C.E. (O/L), SSCE, NECO or its equivalent. These passes must be obtained at not more than two separate sittings and must include English Language, Mathematics, Government, and any other two subjects, one of which must be a Social Science subject.

b. Bachelor of Science in Political Science with Four (4) Years of Study (Direct Entry Requirements)

a. In addition to the requirements listed above for a six-year degree program, the applicant must also have received passes in at least two topics in the appropriate discipline from renowned polytechnics or colleges of technology with a minimum of a credit pass in each of those subjects.

b. At a minimum, a diploma in Public Administration from Delta State University at the merit level, along with five credit passes from WAEC, GCE, (O/L), or NECO; these must include passes in English Language, Mathematics, and Government.

3. B.Sc. SOCIOLOGY

a. Bachelor of Science in Sociology, with a Minimum of Five (5) Years of Study (Basic Requirements)

The potential applicants need to demonstrate that they have obtained at least 5 Credit passes on either the Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE), the General Certificate of Education (O/L), or their equivalents, with English Language being one of the required subjects. A subject in mathematics, two topics in the social sciences, and any other discipline.

b. Bachelor of Science in Sociology in Four (4) Years (Direct Entry Requirements)

i. The prerequisites listed in (a) plus the following: Obtaining merits in at least two subjects while studying for the Advanced Level of the General Certificate of Education, one of which must be a social science subject.

ii. In addition to meeting the requirements for the UME, candidates are expected to have attained at least two passes at the GCE Advanced Level, a DELSU University Diploma, an OND with Merit passes in the appropriate discipline, and five Credit passes at either the WASC or NECO or GCE (Ordinary Level).
