This was because the Federal Government has a policy of putting a Federal Medical Centre in any state that doesn’t have a Federal Teaching Hospital. The old General Hospital, Asaba, became the new Federal Medical Centre, Asaba, and all that changed was the name and who owned it.

The General Hospital left the new hospital with broken down buildings and not much equipment. The State Government also gave the new hospital workers who weren’t very well trained. Despite these problems, Federal Medical Centre, Asaba has grown by leaps and bounds and is now one of the best Federal Tertiary Health Institutions in Nigeria.
